Huntington lakes area - July, 2026

Started trip off on Mammoth/Huntington Reservoir, known for tiger trout.

Fished with intermediate and sinking lines. Fly of choice was a thin mint variant and still water nymph sz. 6 to 10. Float tubes were used also. Everyone present caught fish, though a couple were lost prior to netting.

After lunch we had a thunderstorm which delayed fishing.  We then went to Boulder and Beaver reservoirs after the showers.  Kim Wayment returned to camping with his family. Jim B. and Kim S. had success catching rainbows and cutthroat using a variety of still water and dry fly patterns. Rain ended the day of fishing and we retired to our tents and trailer.

Started the next day at Gooseberry Reservoir with plans to fish but the rain started again so we did a road trip to nearby Fairview.  Had a small lunch at Papa's Pizza. We then tried the inlet of Gooseberry reservoir.  We saw a couple risers but no success so we transferred to the lake in the evening.  We each caught some rainbows on and below the surface, fishing until sunset.

Jim went back to Huntington on Sunday morning and also tried Cleveland Reservoir.  The water was low and the temperature of the lake rose but still caught a couple and then decided to head back.

Weekend was good. the fish didn't cooperate as well as expected and a flash flood went through Huntington Creek below Electric Lake, turning the creek to mud and temporarily closing Route 31.
